The more the years go by, the more the knit dress proves to be one of my favourite garments, for many reasons. It never goes out of fashion, for those memories of the 70s that it knows how to evoke, with the picture of our mum wearing a crochet dress that makes her even more beautiful, or of us at the beach, with a crochet bikini, smiling and laughing for joy and happiness. And then it becomes useful in many occasions ranging from the day to the night, from boho to elegant styles, simply combining it with the right accessories. At first glance, this kind of dress seems to awake our fears for the extra size that the yarn and the knitting could give. But there are right textures for every type of physique, colours and patterns that are just waiting to enhance our body shapes.
The knit dress for the daytime
You can wear a knit dress for any occasion of the day. The loose crochet dress becomes a stylish beach cover-up for your holidays. The light knit dress that covers the knee, instead, as the fit and flare style, is ideal for formal looks and to go to work, combined with sandals with medium heels or slingbacks.
The pencil style that wraps the body is more suitable for elegant evenings and should be embellished with jewel sandals and a sparkling clutch bag. But if you want to try new combinations, then have fun pairing this dress with sneakers, a baseball cap and sports glasses. In general, loosely knitted garments or fabrics with lots of knots and holes are more suitable for casual and boho looks, but remember that also the kind of yarn can make the difference. Regardless of the texture, shiny materials or metal inserts are generally conceived for evenings and chicer looks.
The knit dress for your evenings out
At this point, you will be clear that it is always the accessories that decide the fate of your look and that the mix and match style plays an important role in your combinations with the knit dress. Heeled or flat sandals with precious and shiny elements, small clutches or shoulder bags with gold or silver wire, statement necklaces and bracelets, belts with decorated buckles: all these details can elevate a knit dress that comes from your casual wardrobe.
Some more tips
Sheer pieces, out of the beach zone, should be combined with slip dresses. For the daytime, low-cut dresses can be paired with white T-shirts or long shirts to wear open instead of the jacket. Light colours highlight knots and decorations, while dark ones hide the drawings but give lightness to the figure.
In the late summer sales, you can find discounted items to wear in the coming months and seasons. Above all, if you orient towards neutral colours that resist all fashion trends.
