The slip dress is a kind of classic piece in every over 40 and over 50 woman’s wardrobe, all year round. In summer, you can wear it as it is, in the middle seasons, you match it with outerwear and jackets. In winter, it is just perfect with heavy sweaters and knitwear. The nice thing is that its lightweight fabric slips well over the body and doesn’t fold around those parts we would like to hide, which makes it ideal for layering style.
My closet hosts several coloured slip dresses with thin straps: I prefer the midi one that falls between the knee and ankle. It is elegant and suitable for many occasions, and it is easily worn with sandals, or with shoes and boots, from morning to evening.
Quick outfits with the slip dress
Short or long cardigans match perfectly with slip dresses and slide well on fluid fabrics. And it’s so adorable the contrast between the light material of this dress with the heavy one of the outerwear. Like in this outfit, where I have paired it with the crochet cardigan, a perfect mix for those who, like me, prefer the casual chic style. To stay quite classic, I have decided to go only for two colours, the blue of the dress and the taupe colour that comes in the shades of the ankle boots and the cardi.
In the following look, I have thought of something super comfortable, to wear when you want to feel beautiful and you have also to consider the long hours away from home. Sneakers are an essential accessory for the most demanding days. In this photo, I am wearing shoes of the same colour as the top. They are so special for those strokes of colour that are not too eccentric but give that particular style to the whole look.
The kimono is another piece of clothing that goes well with the slip dress, to wear left open or closed. Remember, however, that a belt squeezed at the waist highlights the silhouette and makes the outfit super feminine.
Some style tips
The high or slightly high waist flatters the figure: tops, short cardigans and cropped jackets are ideal to bring out the silhouette. Pointed shoes and heels elongate the figure, especially if chosen in various shades of beige or colours that do not contrast with that of your legs. The long cardigan is on the wish list of column body shapes. It matches perfectly with shorter dresses, providing it is worn unbuttoned to let the legs bring out or closed with a belt at the waist.
